Happy New Year!

Let’s face it, 2020 has been a difficult year. As a nation, we find ourselves divided by our politics, our beliefs, and even science. We find ourselves facing a pandemic of epic proportions, and many of us have not seen family or friends for months. Worse yet, some of us have lived in near solitary confinement because of health reasons, local restrictions, or both. Sadly, the oldest and most vulnerable among us have suffered the greatest, with many dying alone. And yet, as the new year dawns, most of us still find reasons to hope.

We hope that 2021 will restore some sense of normalcy, although we do not know what our new “normal” will look like. At a minimum, we hope that we will be able to spend time with friends and loved ones without fear. At best, we hope to travel freely once again, and to go to movies, plays, sport events, or concerts with our friends and thousands of our fellow fans. The reality is that it will probably be several years before all those things are true, but that is no reason to give up hope. Even when confronted with so much difficulty and despair, we must hold on to the time-tested adage that “this too shall pass” and the optimistic belief that our “our best days lie ahead”.

Happy New Year to you and yours, and may 2021 bring you all the health and happiness you deserve and more.

Just a Quick Update

I know it has been awhile but rest assured I have been hard at work getting “Revival” ready to release. The first round of edits was completed last week and it is back with the editor for round two. On Monday I sent out advance reader copies to those of you that volunteered to beta read for me (thank you volunteers!).

If you want to read for me there is still time! Just send me a message via email (dan@danmcwhorter.com) I’ll send you the PDF. Please note that all feedback must be received by 5pm Friday September 11th in order to be included in the final release copy. Feedback received after that date will be accepted and incorporated at some future date.

I’m really exited to get “Revival: Gaia Origin Series Book Two” on the shelves! Assuming the editing goes as planned, I am targeting an early to mid October release.

Revival is done! (Well, the hard part is anyway.)

Good news friends. I just sent my final draft of Revival to my publisher to begin the editing process. I don’t have hard dates yet but I will let you know as soon as I get a pre-order date. I am so happy to have finally reached this milestone that I can hardly stand it! Like Restoration, the ending was a challenge but I’m happy where I landed. Hopefully you all will enjoy reading it as much I’ve enjoyed writing it!

As always, thank you for your ongoing encouragement and support!

A Slow Return to “Normal”

Hello friends. It’s been two full weeks since my home state of Georgia began the delicate process of returning people to work. In the relatively small county where I live (~24,000 people), we’ve been blessed to have had only thirty-four documented Covid-19 cases and just one death. I believe those low numbers are due in large part to our predominately rural existence. Most of us live on multi-acre properties and many of us can’t even see our closest neighbors. We also tend to be more self-sufficient than the average city dweller, with our wells, gardens, greenhouses, chickens, cows, goats, etc.

This stands in stark contrast to our large cities, where people are stacked on top of each other like so much firewood and everyone is critically dependent on a wide range of public and private services to survive. As a one-time city dweller myself, I can tell you that I could never go back, and especially not now. I believe that the coronavirus pandemic has changed us forever, and we will never return to the world as we knew it just three short months ago.

In my book, Restoration, I envision a future world plagued by war, famine, and pandemic, and I predict a dire decline in our population. I also predict that the survivors will go to any length to live another day, even at the cost of their ethics, morals, and virtually everything else that makes us human. It is my sincerest hope and prayer that those predictions prove false and, instead, we emerge from this crisis as a better version of ourselves. I hope that we all find ourselves stepping out into our brave new world with more kindness in our hearts, more patience and tolerance for one another, and a deep-seated desire to make the world a better place in whatever ways we can–big or small.

Be safe, stay healthy, and live boldly my friends!
